Team Helper Program

Your Friendly Neighborhood Team Creator

What teams can I make that has at least 18 experience and has at least 7 culture, combat, and ingenuity? Normally you'd have to use your own imagination and guesswork to find the combinations. And just sorting by "Team Character with Science = 0" won't always find you all or the best solutions. Maybe you wanted to use someone like Samantha Carter (Problem Solver) in your Pacifist deck, but you might have forgotten about her because the search filtered her out due to her combat.

Well, worry no more. Your Friendly Neighborhood Team Creator is here - Okay, I'll stop being lame, but the Team Helper could be just what you needed.

What It Does

Simply put, the Team Helper's intended purpose was to generate all possible Stargate teams based on given criteria, namely, skills and experience. (Later iterations will hopefully produce teams based on usable glyphs.) Enter your desired experience and skills, hit search, and have fun looking through all the possible teams you could have. As a word of warning, you might find you need to get more picky in your criteria, because there are a lot of teams out there (over twenty six thousand, actually). Try locking in a character to find all the teams that fit your criteria and include that character.

The Team Helper can do the simpler task of just quickly showing the total stats of a team you create. You can choose, from drop down lists, a selection of 4 team characters. Their stats display along with total stats for the team, so it's helpful in creating your own teams manually, as well (just without the pretty picture of the card).

How To Do It

Team Helper Builder Main Window

To the left you'll see a list of search criteria values. From top to bottom they are: Team Experience Level, Experience Compare Type, Culture, Science, Combat, Ingenuity, Skills Compare Type. For the Experience Compare Type, this is how the search will be performed on the experience. Pick >= if you want a team with at least the amount of experience you requested. Pick = = if you want a team with exactly the amount of experience you requested. For the Skills Compare Type, this is how the search will be performed on the skills. If you pick >=, for example, the total culture for the team must be at least the value you entered.

To the right you will see a team. The team can be manually configured, using the drop down lists to select your four characters. Doing this with Team Helper will give you the benefit of instantly displaying total experience and skills for a team you create. You can throw in any character you'd like to see how they add up.

Just to the left of each team member drop down box you'll see a little square button. When you press the button the drop down box to the right of it will become disabled. This means you have locked that character into your search criteria. Now when you search you will only get teams that match your search criteria and include the character(s) you locked in.

After you press the Search button in the lower left a search will be performed based on the criteria entered. The results will be displayed, one at a time, on the right. The teams in each search are numbered and the team number will be displayed above the first team character. The total number of teams in the search is displayed below the Next and Previous buttons. If that total number is in the thousands, or even the hundreds, you may want to narrow your search. ;) After a search is conducted you can navigate through the list of teams using the Next and Previous buttons. If you find a team that is close to one you'd like to use, you can switch out team members using the drop down lists. If you do this, however, you selection becomes the new team character in that designated team until you conduct another search.

A small dialog box will inform you if a search yielded no results. Feel free to close this dialog by pressing OK. Also, when future sets are released inclusion of the new characters will be automatic when you open the program. However, for this reason, you must have internet access to run this program, as it downloads the character list from kitsdb.com.

Icons

Now Team Helper has helpful icons for most labels. All glyphs and skills have an icon for easy references, just like in the game.

Glyph Search

This new version of Team Helper involves the ability to search by glyphs. Choose whichever glyphs you want in your team and when you search you will get all team members that can use at least one of those glyphs. HINT: Usually you’ll want to leave “Any Glyph” checked. This will return teams with members that can use any glyph (e.g. Aldwin), in addition to the others chosen. Those team members can use any glyph, so why not include them. :D

Along with the glyph search is a display of the glyphs a team member has. These are displayed with letters. Reference of which letter means which glyph is below.

The Glyphs

Save to File

There’s a Save to File button below the team along with two check boxes. When “Save All Teams” is checked, the Save to File button will save a list of all teams in your search. This can only be done after you have hit the search button. (“Save All Teams” will save only the current team display if that is the only team that exists, even if you haven’t hit the Search button yet.) When “Save Current Team” is checked, the Save to File button will save the currently displayed team, whether or not there are more teams in your search. After you hit Save to File you will get the chance to choose which file you want to save it to.

As always, I hope this program is helpful. Please let me know of any feature requests or bugs you find.

How To Get It

Click Here to download the zip file containing the program.

How To Install It

This new version comes with some icons to pretty up the interface. The icons are not absolutely necessary, but they do make Team Helper a bit more fun to use. However, this means that the download will now be a .zip file instead of a .jar file. Please do the following steps to make sure the icons show up properly:
  1. Copy TeamHelper.zip to a folder of your choice.
  2. Unzip TeamHelper.zip using a program like WinZip or WinRar.
  3. You will see a TeamHelper.jar and an ico folder. The ico folder must be in the same directory as TeamHelper.jar.
  4. If you want a shortcut on your desktp, right-click TeamHelper.jar and choose "Create Shortcut".
  5. You can then copy and paste the shortcut to your desktop.
  6. That's it, you're ready to go.

Note: If you are running Kit's DeckViewer you already have Java installed and it should just work. If not, go get it right now!

What Will Come

The moment you think of and idea like this you begin thinking of other and more things you can do with it

I hope you find good use of this program. I would love to hear that something I began because I was bored yielded some good fruit. Please, feel free to comment here to let me know of any feature upgrades you'd like to see.

You rock Dannee! I've been using excel spreadsheets to sort, consider and calculate all my possible teams and this will speed up the process considerable. Thank you!!! I think adding Glyph choices is a must, so get to work! :-)
Dannee Jul 17, 2007
Thanks for the comment! :D I should have the glyph choices available soon, but I wanted to get the tool out as soon as I could.
