Top 10 Ferrier Uncommon Cards

This continues the series of top uncommons for each race, this time with a non-Entropy race, the Ferrier.

The List

  1. 8. Majority Senator
    • An expensive card, but very worthwhile. As a hero, he’s much less vulnerable than other sources of Destiny, especially if you leave a Mediator at the SC as well. You can also use him for local influence if necessary. You should always play with 4 for best results.
  2. 7. Cease Fire
    • This card has gotten me out of many tight spots. Although it should only be used in high Order decks, this card has many uses. It can get you past blockades, let your bombers bomb without fear, or set up an attack on the enemy home world (alert ships vs alert ships).
  3. 6. Deflector Scout
  4. 5. Gorvinium Engineer
    • If you can get two or three of these guys with a conquering fleet, the fleet can quickly become almost invincible. Play with 4 of these guys and lots of ship cards.
  5. 4. Conspicuous Absence
    • This is an essential card in any Ferrier Destiny deck. It’s very easy to get 4+ influence at the Star Chamber with the Ferrier, and this one card can cost the opponent huge amounts of Destiny and Industry on large maps. Best to play when you have more than one in hand so that you can play it again before the opponent can react.
  6. 3. Powermonger
    • A very expensive card, but so powerful it has to be included in this list. Not only is he a two-vote hero, but you get two powerplay options when you win a vote with him AND +1 Destiny for every flag you control! With 2 or 3 of these guys in play, this can mean instant game over. For 2 extra destiny (and a free ship) you can vote for war and then for peace. This guy was made to be played with Mind Adjutant.
  7. 2. Mediator
    • One of the best uncommons in the game, period. The bane of the Clave, this card keeps your local stuff safe from everything except ship attack. Only dangerous if you pack many cards that target enemy entities like Tractor Beam. Worthwhile in almost any deck, a must in battle avoidance decks.
  8. 1. Imperial Summons
    • One of my favorite Ferrier cards, this can be used as a Sinister Implant toslow down opponents, or as a permanent influence boost for your own personae. Mediator can be better verses certain types of decks, but Imperial Summons is more generally useful. Number one with a bullet!

There you are. There are only 8 cards listed here because I don’t think there are 10 great Ferrier uncommons and I’m not listing mono tech cards. If you feel I’ve missed anything, feel free to comment on my article.

I have to disagree strongly with Dannee. Security Detail is not a good card.

For one thing, you can only target citizens, making it far less useful for the Ferrier. For another thing, you can only use it at the Star Chamber, so you have to wait for enemies to pass though to remove their mods. The worst though, is that it makes the target stationary.

Ablution Pod is a much better uncommon option that does almost the same thing, and for Ferrier Zhorwahl cannot be beat. Give Security Detail a pass.

I might consider adding Security Detail to your list. Unless your opponent is ignoring the Star Chamber, he'll probably need to play modifications to keep up with your voting power. At the very least, this can prevent your opponent from surprise increases in voting power, at the most it will turn enemy modifications into voting power for you.

And if you end up playing against another Ferrier, you guys can have all kinds of fun demoding each other. :D

EDIT: I've been playing with it a couple times, and it hasn't been much use. It's probably only useful if you're playing against another Ferrier, or you're playing your own mods on opponent characters, but if you're doing that, why would you want to remove them?
