Power Questing Priest Deck

Here is a deck build for a priest quest deck, or what I like to call PQER. I won't really go over strategy with it, I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader.

The Deck

Avatar

1/3/10 Gnome with Quest damage prevent ability

Quests

Abilities

Tactics

Items

Units

Basically use the Gambits and Hallowed Auras to keep getting back Tranquility. Use Intercessions and Outwits to tie up opponents units while you gather some more power, as well as teh Dwarven Sentrys.

Fun deck to play, Give it a try!

Comments and Critics welcome.

[This deck was originally posted in the LoN forums, and has been going through some tweaks recently. I tried to capture the current state of the deck as of the writing of this article - Editor]

[The original author updated this deck shortly after I published it here, I just changed the deck to reflect the updated version. - Editor]

No offence, but i don't think giving a number of cards without giving strategy is of good use for this site. I'm sure good players, who don't need a strategy laid out for them, don't need a cards list either. Those who need the list also need the advice =)

Gus,

The reason I created an article on this deck is that it seemed like a good implementation of a fairly interesting archetype. I agree that all things being equal it would be better to have articles that not only list the decks, but delve deep into the strategy of why specific cards were chosen, and how best to play the deck. Unfortunately by inbox has not been flooded with these kinds of fabulous articles. So I've decided to pick some of the more interesting posts from the forums to highlight here and serve as a starting point.

Any player should feel free to comment here on what strategies they find that work with this deck. Perhaps that way over time we can get a nice full description of how to best play this deck.

If Meck is willing to extend his article to cover more info, I'd be more than happy to update this page.

There are some good choices in this deck, but basically the breakdown on how to use these cards are fairly simple.

Divine aura is used to keep avatar killer decks at bay. They absorb any damage you give to the avatar. If you see this card, be sure to use your foresight to get around it if your a avatar killer. Trust me, I have a avatar killing deck and this card always screws up my day.

Guardian cards are used to keep units from clearing up other units at quests. also, These cards help you protect you avatar from being raided against which gives you more time to use those ability cards to Quest.

TACTICS AGAINST THIS DECK!

What is this deck's weaknesses?

Nothing really, but If you go up against a power quester deck like this. To get around Divine Aura, Try to get two assaults in your hand or avatar fight cards and the first round only apply as much damage needed for the person to use Divine aura, then Use another avatar fight card and apply as much damage you have.

Also to save yourself from jumping through hoops to get some damage on this kind of avatar, I would stock up your deck on Disable or anything else that kills abilities.

And, **Get yourself some protector cards** (low cost, high defense or attack!) how many you add is up to you. I only try to have no more then four in my deck and also try to get some with nice attack and defense. anything with extra damage is a plus!

Stun is a good card here to kill Black silk sash or anything that remotely gives them questing advantage(or heals if you are trying to kill avatar).

Also, there are some cards that convert opposing Guardians into a regular unit. These will help if you have them. I can't recall the names of them at the moment, but hopefully someone can post in a comment after this one. Those are always good to have in your deck as well.

(example of hard method aka jump through hoops)

This is how I used it. I already had Staff of observers in play, and the field has some exerted ememy units so that gave my staff som nice damage bonus (+4 I think). So I used assault, got 1 dmg on avatar, but it was null and void due to divine aura, then I used assault again, Intellectual Superiority which readied my exerted avatar, succeeded and then applied my staff damage +4 plus my avatar +1 dmg bonus. So, I got that powerquesting gnome bastard for 5 hp. =)

(example of the easy way)

Try to get your damage bonus item cards up, then use Disable , assault, use enough cards to get past defense, then pass and then apply your item cards for extra damage. If you do this right you can really get some damage done, but as always, It takes some pre-planning and foresight.

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD GAMING!

I noticed you use 51 cards in this deck, but actually don't have enough of the cards that really make this deck concept work.

I play a similar one but use 4 Foolhardy cards. Sure, you take damage when you play them but YOU WANT TO GET THIS CARD IN YOUR HAND ASAP. It finished quests the next turn, and that is what you want to do with this strategy.

Also, you should use 4 Intercessions. It allows you to get your Avatar out of combat, which in many cases is more powerful then Divine Aura (since Divine Aura can be destroyed if played ahead of time, and can't be played when you have three Abilities in play alread).

The Outwits don't help you much, since you aren't playing agressively, and your opponent gets the first opportunity to exert for attack when raiding you. It also does nothing Vs attacks from the opposing Avatar.

Instead of the 4 Outwits, I play with more Foolhardy and Intercession cards.

I also prefer to include the quest Errand for Wolten instead of Forging Stormhealer Armor because instead of drawing two cards, it allows me to recover the ability card that I played at the quest itself to complete it. This is especially important when you have been forced to use a Forge Ahead or Foolhardy just to complete this level 2 quest.

I also recommend playing with more Unit cards. You NEED to be able to shut out attacks, and 8 Units is really not sufficient to do this.

My alternative to this deck concept (damn, I should have just written an article myself):

  • Errand for Wolten
  • Gale Weaver Test of Faith
  • Seek the Adventurer's Stone
  • Find the Frozen Crystal

  • Tranquility x4
  • Disable x4
  • Foolhardy x4
  • Forge Ahead x4
  • Hallowed Aura x1
  • Gambit x1
  • Intimidate x2
  • Cannibalize x2

Tactics

  • Intercession x4

Items

  • Flowing Black Silk Sash x2
  • Journeyman's Boots x4
  • Steel Dagger x1

Units

  • Dwarven Sentry x2
  • Dwarven Cleric x2
  • Truth Captain x2
  • Truth Patrolman x2
  • Galebreaker Maiden x1
  • Hoard Hound x3
  • Gnoll Soothsayer x2
